Behind Movement Mastery
Alan Williams
An experienced Osteopath, Certified Yoga Teacher, Certified Practitioner of Pilates for Rehabilitation, and Certified CHEK Exercise Coach, Alan has been in clinical osteopathic practice for nearly 30 years.
He lectures Osteopathic Medicine and has lectured Human Movement Studies and Physical Education. He has taught yoga classes, pilates classes, and provided rehabilitation and movement sessions for patients with many musculoskeletal conditions.
Alan has a life-long passion for movement and exercise and will guide you to acquire more skilful and natural movement, to achieve profound results.

Three BEGINNERS routines to learn how to MOVE SKILFULLY
MOVE SKILFULLY 1:
Body Awareness
Build a strong foundation whether if you are new to Pilates, or beginning your patients on a specific exercise programme. These movements will help to awaken your awareness of subtle but important ways to control your spine and limbs, whilst synchronising your breathing patterns specifically to the movements.
MOVE SKILFULLY 3:
Body Knowing
Once the foundation has been built, and specific aspects of movement have been improved, it’s time to challenge your body to become even more skilful. Instead of simply adding more exercises, you can increase the challenge in various ways by adjusting your weight-bearing, leverage of limbs, and by combining to coordination.
MOVE SKILFULLY 2:
Body Control
Set your intentions accurately to achieve your goals and select the best exercises at the right time. Deciding on a desired outcome will determine whether you want to focus on one aspect of movement or several at the same time. Knowing how different exercises can improve particular aspects of movement control will save considerable time.

Embodied Learning
Practice effectively whenever you want, with nine movements that will give you a thorough movement experience and bring real results that you will see and feel in your body. Focus your awareness to appreciate just how well you can move in various positions.
LEVEL 2:
Embodied Knowing
Keep the momentum going with the next level of challenge, not by a longer routine, but by involving a different degree of focus. These nine movements will give you the opportunity to experience whole body organisation of strength, flexibility, alignment and coordination.

“I have never done Pilates before so will I be in safe hands?”
Yes, you will be taught and guided by an experienced Movement Specialist and Osteopath who has been treating people and prescribing corrective exercise for the individual’s needs for thirty years. Rest assured you will be in qualified and experienced hands every step along the way, whether you are a beginner or advanced mover.
“I don’t have time to go to classes, so will I get the same benefit doing Pilates at home?”
Yes, all the routines have clear instructions on how to achieve the best results from each exercise, so yo can progress at your own pace and challenge yourself to raise your ability to move well. You can perform each routine either with detailed instructions, or without (just as in a class).
“Will I need to learn the beginner’s routines before attempting the advanced routines?”
If you have not done Pilates before, the beginner’s routines will teach you the vital basic ingredients to moving, and breathing, well. These basics will prepare your body for the more challenging routines in the advanced section, so that you will always get the most out of the exercises, safely and effectively.
“As I am used to exercising, can I jump straight into the advanced routines as I think I can cope with them well?”
Yes, of course. And if you feel at any time that you would like to re-learn, or work on something more basic, you can always follow the beginner’s routines as they will iron out any bad movement habits, so you can make even greater gains when you return to the advanced routines.
